Welcome to KB’s OPENBIB project: Supporting Open Bibliometric Data!
The Kompentenznetzwerk Bibliometrie (KB), a network of more than 25 German research institutions, contributes to the ongoing transformation towards open bibliometric data allowing for more transparency and participation in bibliometric research and contract work. But open bibliometric datasources require substantial data checks, cleaning and ongoing curation probably in a decentralised manner. We address these challenges by providing curated open data and an accompanying blog with a special focus on research coming out of Germany.
KB’s Open Data
The KB has been probing the data quality of proprietary bibliometric data since 2008 and developed several approaches to correct or enrich the data. We apply this knowledge now onto open bibliometric data and provide this curated data openly for everyone’s use. The data is available on Zenodo via a permissive CCO licence, more information on the data structure is available here.
OPENBIB Blog
In this blog, we describe our pathway towards a quality assessed and reliable open bibliometric database. You will find reports on new possibilities, but also shortcomings and pitfalls of the different datasources, comparative analyses, or reports on our curation procedures to improve data quality of open sources with a special focus on research coming out of Germany.
